Girl meets Shakespeare….

This summer, I’ve had the opportunity to cross a little item off of my bucket list…I had a chance to participate in The Grassroots Shakespeare Company‘s Summer Tour. I was cast as Rosalind in As You Like It and Fluellen, Hostess, & Messenger in Henry V. The thing that’s different about Grassroots (GRS) is that it’s an original practice Shakespeare company, which means that we strive to do Shakespeare like Shakespeare did it in his day. We do a fast-paced cutting, we jig, there’s no “concept,” we don’t have a director, we encourage the audience to cheer, boo & heckle, and a bunch of other cool stuff!

To be perfectly honest, it’s been simultaneously one of the most difficult theater experiences I’ve ever had and the most exciting. Not going to lie, I’m probably going to be tearing up during our pre-show sing-along. Tonight and tomorrow are our last two shows and we’re ending the season with a bang! Not only are we doing the two shows I already mentioned, but we’re remounting an all-male cast of A Midsummer Night’s Dream in two great big triple-headers. It is going to be SO EPIC!

As part of the promos for the season, each of the cast members wrote a post for the GRS blog. If you’d like to read mine, check it out here. Also, if you want more information on how GRS does original practice Shakespeare, check out some of the videos from our Youtube:
